Competition is important in all sports but the ruleset of Jiu-Jitsu assigns points for achieving positions that would benefit you in self-defense. Jiu-Jitsu is Jiu-Jitsu whether you're training to defend yourself or to win tournaments.
If you're interested in the sport application of Jiu-Jitsu, the IBJJF San Jose Open is quickly approaching! This is a great opportunity for you to compete alongside your team. Even if you aren't attending as a competitor, everyone is encouraged to come to support their friends and teammates over the weekend of May 4th-5th.
