CURRICULUM, WEEK OF August 24th

August 25, 2025

This week in CTA classes, we’ll start by focusing on back control—how to maintain dominant control when your opponent is fighting to escape. We’ll also cover an efficient way to transition to the arm lock from the back, giving you a strong finishing option.

On Wednesday, we’ll move to defense and learn one of the best ways to escape the back, recover guard, or even turn the escape into a single leg takedown. To wrap up the week, we’ll shift our attention to the standing position, working on the double leg takedown and learning how to gain positional advantage when defending against it. This week is all about control, escapes, and building confidence both on the ground and on the feet.

This week in CTB class, we’ll start by continuing our focus on half guard, covering one of the strongest ways to pass this position—the knee cut. This fundamental pass is highly effective for creating pressure and securing dominant positions.

Later in the week, we’ll shift our attention to open guard and work on two of the most reliable passing options: the over-under pass and the double-under pass. Both passes are staples for controlling the guard and advancing safely, making them essential tools for your top game.

This week in CTC class, we’ll continue our focus on the De La Riva guard. We’ll start by learning the leg drag, one of the most effective and versatile ways to pass the guard. It’s easy to learn, highly efficient, and a technique every grappler should have in their arsenal.

Later in the week, we’ll shift to attacks from the De La Riva, focusing on using sleeve and pant grips. Each grip combination creates different angles and opportunities to attack, so understanding these options is crucial for building a complete and dangerous open guard game.
