CURRICULUM, WEEK OF August 31st

September 1, 2025

This week in CTA classes, we’ll begin by sharpening our stand-up game with the single leg takedown. We’ll cover different variations to bring our opponent to the ground, as well as effective defenses, including disengagement and the arm-out guillotine.

Later in the week, we’ll work on pulling guard to closed guard—a tactic that allows us to bring the fight to a position of strong control. To finish the week, we’ll start exploring the details of the closed guard, beginning with the classic armlock.

This week in CTB classes we will continue working from open guard, focusing on both sweeping our opponents and passing the guard. On Tuesday, we’ll go over variations of the tripod sweep—a fundamental sweep that is simple to learn yet highly effective, even against experienced opponents.

As the week progresses, we’ll work on combining guard retention and passing, covering techniques such as the X-pass and the anchor hand guard recovery. To finish the week, we’ll explore the bus driver sweep and connect it to attacking the triangle from open guard.

This week in CTC class we will continue our focus on the De La Riva guard. On Tuesday, we’ll cover how to effectively use the underhook De La Riva to control and create strong sweeping opportunities. On Thursday, we will shift our attention to the De La Riva X, exploring how to transition into this variation and use it to attack and off-balance our opponent.
