In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, breaking your opponent’s grips from guard is crucial for maintaining control and launching effective attacks. Strong grips allow your opponent to dictate movement, set up passes, and secure submissions, making it essential to strip their control before advancing your own game. By proactively breaking grips—whether using two-on-one grip breaks, circling your hand out, or pushing off pant grips—you prevent them from stalling your guard and create opportunities for sweeps and submissions. The person who controls the grips often controls the fight, so drill grip-breaking consistently to stay on the offensive and keep your guard dynamic.
