CURRICULUM, WEEK OF March 16th

March 15, 2025

This week, our CTA training focus is on the Closed Guard, one of the most dominant positions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA. Unlike open guards, the closed guard offers superior control by restricting an opponent’s movement, preventing guard passes, and limiting striking effectiveness. This position provides access to a variety of submissions like armbars, triangles, and guillotines, while also enabling strong sweeps and transitions to dominant positions such as mount and back control. The closed guard remains an essential tool for both self-defense and competition, making it a crucial skill to refine at all levels of training.

For our CTB classes this week, our focus shifts to the Open Guard, a crucial position that allows for dynamic movement, control, and attack opportunities in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Unlike closed guard, open guard keeps you mobile, making it an essential tool for both sweeping and passing against aggressive opponents. By mastering open guard, you gain the ability to dictate the pace of a match, forcing your opponent to react to your setups while maintaining strong defensive structure.

See you guys on the mats!
