CURRICULUM, WEEK OF May 18th

May 19, 2025

This week in CTA, we’re continuing our focus on the closed guard with a fresh set of techniques. We’ll begin by learning how to set up the kimura from closed guard, with key details on breaking posture, creating the right angle, and keeping our hips tight for a strong finish. Later in the week, we’ll cover how to sweep our opponent when breaking their posture isn’t working, along with a follow-up submission when they attempt to defend. To wrap things up, we’ll work on the classic cross choke—a powerful and fundamental submission from closed guard. Come ready to refine your control, timing, and finishing details!

This week in CTB, we’re starting to explore the half guard—an essential position to understand for progression in BJJ. We'll focus on how to set up effective attacks from the bottom half guard and introduce passing strategies when you're on top. Whether you're playing guard or looking to pass, understanding the half guard will add valuable depth to your game.

This week in CTC, we’ll begin by reviewing the reverse de la riva guard, a versatile position with both offensive and defensive utility. As the week progresses, we’ll start a deep dive into the de la riva guard—one of the most widely used guards in modern BJJ. Get ready to explore key grips, off-balancing techniques, and entries into sweeps and submissions from these dynamic guard positions.
