This week in CTA class, we’ll be switching gears to the mount position-the most dominant position in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We’ll begin by learning how to maintain strong control when our opponent turns to their side, a moment that opens opportunities for back takes, chokes, arm locks, and a variety of other submissions.
Later in the week, we’ll focus on escaping the mount using the hip escape, one of the most common and reliable ways to create space and recover from this difficult position. To wrap up the week, we’ll study the arm lock from mount-a staple submission that every grappler should know and a fundamental finishing technique from this dominant position.
In CTB class this week, we’ll shift our focus to the spider guard, learning how to sweep and attack submissions from one of the most dynamic and effective open guards in Jiu Jitsu. We’ll explore the core mechanics of controlling the arms, managing distance, and creating angles to off-balance and attack your opponent.
Later in the week, we’ll learn how to transition from spider guard to the lasso guard - a very dominant form of control that opens the door to even more sweeps and submission setups. To finish the week, we’ll switch perspectives and study effective methods for passing the spider-lasso combination, giving you the tools to deal with this powerful guard from both sides of the game.
In CTC class this week, we will focus on attacking the ankle lock from the single leg X guard - a powerful position that offers great control and immediate submission threats. We’ll also cover how to defend the ankle lock and how to counter your opponent’s defense, ensuring you understand the full offensive and defensive cycle of this technique.
To finish the week, we will shift our attention to the collar sleeve guard, one of the strongest and most reliable guards in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This position offers exceptional control and leads to a wide range of attacks, making it an essential part of any well-rounded guard game.
