In CTA class this week, we’ll continue developing our closed guard, one of the most important and effective positions in Jiu Jitsu. We’ll start the week learning how to apply the classic cross choke, a timeless submission that remains one of the strongest attacks from closed guard.
Later in the week, we’ll work on the sit-up sweep, a great option when we’re having trouble breaking our opponent’s posture. We’ll also see how the same cross choke from earlier in the week becomes available when our opponent defends the sweep. To finish the week, we’ll cover the scissor sweep—a fundamental and easy-to-learn technique that should be part of everyone’s game. It’s especially effective for beginners who are still building their arsenal of attacks.
In CTB class this week, we’ll continue working from half guard, focusing on regaining control when our opponent has the advantage. We’ll start by learning how to recover position when our back is flat on the mat and our opponent is controlling us with an underhook and head pressure—an essential skill for improving defense and building strong half guard structure.
As the week progresses, we’ll work on the modified hip switch to pass the knee shield, along with effective ways to transition to the 3/4 mount or finish with a solid pass. To finish the week, we’ll study the knee cut pass, one of the most efficient and reliable ways to advance from top half guard into dominant positions.
In CTC class this week, we’ll continue working from the De La Riva guard, one of the most dynamic and versatile positions in modern Jiu Jitsu. We’ll start by reviewing one of the strongest passes in BJJ—the leg drag—and how to apply it with control and precision.
We’ll also learn how to transition to the back and sweep our opponent using the baby bolo, a powerful technique that builds on the De La Riva’s off-balancing mechanics. To finish the week, we’ll continue our study of the De La Riva guard, focusing on how to attack using the pant grip to create angles, control, and submission opportunities.
