CURRICULUM, WEEK OF September 7th

September 8, 2025

This week in our CTA classes, we will continue our focus on the closed guard, one of the most important positions in Jiu Jitsu. We’ll begin the week by learning how to open the closed guard by standing, the most effective and reliable way to create space and begin passing. Later in the week, we will turn our attention to submissions, starting with the triangle choke, one of the strongest and most widely used techniques in both sport and self-defense. To finish the week, we’ll cover the kimura from closed guard, a powerful attack that combines control with submission opportunities.

In CTB class this week, we will be focusing on controlling and attacking from the lasso guard, one of the most versatile open guards in Jiu Jitsu. Later in the week, we’ll shift perspectives and learn effective methods to pass the lasso guard. To finish the week, we’ll begin exploring the single leg X guard, a powerful position that sets up sweeps and transitions against opponents of all sizes.

In CTC class this week, we will start with the 50/50 guard. This position is highly effective for guard recovery and creates strong opportunities to sweep from the bottom, while also being very difficult to pass from the top. We’ll explore how to use the position both offensively and defensively, and why it has become such an important guard to understand at higher levels of Jiu Jitsu.

Later in the week, we will shift our focus to the collar sleeve guard, a very strong guard that opens the door to numerous attacks such as the armlock, triangle, and omoplata. This guard provides excellent control over your opponent’s posture and movement, making it one of the most effective platforms for building a submission game.
