In our CTA classes this week, we will continue our focus on back control, submissions, and escapes. We’ll start the week by learning how to maintain control of our opponent’s back while they attempt to escape, emphasizing proper grip, hip, and shoulder positioning. We’ll finish the lesson by studying a highly effective transition into the arm lock from back control.
Later in the week, we’ll shift our focus to escaping the back and countering with a single-leg takedown. To close out the week, we’ll move to the standing position and work on the double-leg takedown, along with key defensive skills—learning how to sprawl, defend the takedown, and transition to the back. This week’s lessons will strengthen your ability to control, escape, and dictate the pace of any match.
In CTB class this week, we’ll focus on the closed guard, starting with the catucada sweep—a highly effective counter when your opponent stands up to open your guard that often leads directly to the mount position.
Later in the week, we’ll work on overhook attacks and learn one of the most reliable ways to enter the triangle submission from the overhook. To finish the week, we’ll review the omoplata submission—an excellent technique to use against bigger and stronger opponents—and also go over how to effectively escape the omoplata when you’re caught in it.
In CTC class this week, we’ll review the collar sleeve guard—an extremely effective way to control your opponent from the bottom. This guard offers excellent grip control and leads directly to attacks such as the triangle choke, omoplata, arm lock, and many other submissions.
Later in the week, we’ll shift our focus to the deep half guard. We’ll cover how to sweep and take the back from deep half, as well as an effective method for passing the position when you’re on top. Understanding both the offensive and defensive sides of these guards will help you build a more complete and adaptable game.
