CURRICULUM, WEEK OF September 14th

September 15, 2025

In our CTA classes this week, we will continue our focus on the closed guard. We’ll begin with the scissor sweep, a highly effective and easy-to-learn technique that should be in every practitioner’s arsenal, especially those just starting their Jiu Jitsu journey. Later in the week, we’ll work on the sit-up sweep, a great option when we can’t break our opponent’s posture, and we’ll follow up by exploring submissions that open up when they defend the sweep. To finish the week, we’ll review the classic cross choke from closed guard, a fundamental submission that remains one of the strongest techniques in BJJ.

In CTB class this week, we will dive into the X-guard, one of the most powerful open guards that allows you to off-balance and attack your opponent with precision. Throughout the week, we’ll cover effective sweeps from the bottom as well as strategies to pass the X-guard from the top. To finish the week, we’ll shift our focus to side control and explore different ways to transition into the mount, building strong control and setting up attacks from a dominant position.

In CTC class this week, we will begin with guard passing, focusing specifically on how to effectively pass the spider guard—a position known for its strong control and sweeping potential. We’ll work on strategies to stay balanced, dismantle grips, and secure dominant positions. To finish the week, we will switch gears to the sit-up guard, exploring how to use it to create offensive opportunities and transitions against a resisting opponent.
