Jiu-Jitsu at its core is a game of mental problem-solving. Managing your ego is important because relying on pride, stubbornness, or a need to win every round will leave you vulnerable and trapped when it counts against a technical opponent.
Take your time, accept the bad positions, and if you are caught, tap early—it is a lesson, not a loss. The defensive drills and tap-outs are an incredibly underrated part of class. These moments are specifically designed to strip away your ego and teach you survival. Understand these humbling moments and why we need them; your mindset will improve faster, and when crushed under a heavy cross-face, you will find peace in uncomfortable situations.
